Ardmore's Bernard Pierce Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

Temple University junior running back and Ardmore native Bernard Pierce has been added to the expanded 2011 Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club has announced.

Pierce is having a huge season for the Owls (5-2, 3-1 MAC) and was also named the Mid-Atlantic Conference offensive player of the week on Monday—the seventh time in his career and third time this season he has received that award.

Pierce broke five Temple records in the recent 34-0 rout of Buffalo, becoming the all-time career leader in touchdowns (rushing and receiving) and breaking his own single-season mark for touchdowns and points scored.

Over his career, Pierce has 44 touchdowns. Of those 18 have come this season, including 17 from the backfield—a category he leads the nation in (on 844 total yards and 164 carries). He is no. 2 in the nation in scoring, averaging just under 15 points a game.

The Maxwell Award has been given to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937.
