Car Crash, Fire Leaves Driver Critical: Lower Merion Authorities

Officials said a Volkswagen Tiguan Civic struck a parked car early Monday, starting a fire and entrapping the driver, who is critical.

MERION, PA — A driver involved in an early Morning crash in Merion is critical after their vehicle caught fire with them trapped inside it.

According to Lower Merion Township officials, the crash occurred at about 3:40 a.m. on the 300 block of Montgomery Avenue.

A Volkswagen Tiguan Civic was heading west on Montgomery Avenue when it struck a vehicle parked on the south side of the road, authorities said.

The vehicle caught fire upon impact, trapping the driver inside it, according to authorities.

Firefighters pulled the driver from the wreckage, who was then taken to Lankenau Medical Center before being flown to Jefferson for more treatment, authorities said.

The driver is in critical condition, according to township officials.

Details on the driver were not released.

Montgomery Avenue was closed for about four hours as crews responded.
