"Residents should know that an experienced and well-trained team of professionals from the United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service runs the program along with our Animal Control Officer and assistance from the Police Department," police said.
Residents rarely hear or are aware of the team’s presence when they are on site, police said.
According to police, when the team visits the various location around the township, they look to see if any deer are active in the prescribed locations. If none are in the area, they move to the next spot. If deer are spotted, they are culled.
All deer are removed immediately and sent to a venison processor.
Venison harvested from the cull is donated to local food banks.
he program has been run since 2009, and since then 1,565 deer have been culled.
2021 saw the largest cull in the program's history, with 207 deer killed.
