Fake Bomb Used In Lancaster Ave Bank Robbery Attempt

A man attempted to rob the Bank of America at 250 East Lancaster Avenue in Wynnewood with a fake bomb Friday morning, authorities say.

A man who made a fake bomb out of wood, black tape and computer wires attempted to use the prop to rob a Main Line bank Friday morning, authorities say.

According to information from Lower Merion Township, the incident unfolded around 10 a.m., when a man entered the Bank of America at 250 East Lancaster Avenue in Wynnewood and told the teller he had a bomb.

He showed the “bomb” to everyone in the bank, township Public Information Officer Thomas J. Walsh said.

The man, who has not yet been identified by authorities, demanded money. After receiving cash from the tellers, he attempted to enter the vault, Walsh said.

The teller was able to activate the silent alarm system, which summoned Lower Merion Police.

When police arrived, they took the man into custody.

“It was determined the actor was by himself and the prop he used as a bomb was made up of wood blocks, black tape and computer wires,” Walsh said.

No one was injured during the incident and all the money was recovered.
