On Wednesday, April 27, Friends’ Central School hosted the Philadelphia Regional Finals of the National History Bee. The event took place at 5 pm in Shallcross Hall (1101 City Avenue, Wynnewood).
Over 300 people, including 100 Middle School student qualifiers from both public and private schools in the tri-state area, were present for the annual competition, which featured four Friends’ Central Middle School qualifiers. Jackson Snider ’20, Gordon Wilcox ’20, Samuel Kazak ’21, and Jordyn Paszamant ’22 finished among the top 120 in the region on the Online Regional Qualifying Exam (ORQE), making them eligible to participate in the Regional Finals of the National History Bee.
Middle School teacher Jebb Chagan, who is also the coordinator for the event at Friends’ Central, commented, “By competing in the National History Bee, these students are joining a select group of some of the best young minds in the country – an accomplishment worth celebrating.”

This is the fourth consecutive year that Friends’ Central’s Middle School participated in the National History Bee, and the third year Friends’ Central has hosted the Regional Finals. Middle School Principal Alexa Quinn shares, “The History Bee is a wonderful opportunity for our students to demonstrate their passion for and knowledge of history, and we’re so proud of the Middle Schoolers who are participating! We are thrilled to host the event again this year and hope to continue the relationship we have with the History Bee.”
