FedEx Truck Bursts Into Flames On I-76 In Lower Merion Over Weekend

A FedEx tractor trailer caught fire early Sunday morning on Interstate 76 east in Lower Merion Township, according to first responders.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — A tractor trailer fire on Interstate 76 in Lower Merion might lead to some delayed package deliveries.

A FedEx tractor trailer caught fire at about 12:36 a.m. Sunday at mile marker 333 on eastbound Interstate 76 in Lower Merion, according to the Gladwyne Fire Company.

Crews found the truck's trailer was disconnected and engulfed in flames.

Eastbound Interstate 76 was closed to allow emergency responders to better tackle the blaze.

Crews from various surrounding fire companies — Penn Wynne Fire Company Station 21, Merion Fire Company of Ardmore, Bryn Mawr Fire Company, and Paoli Fire Company — also helped battle the fire.

These firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the fire and to save the contents of the trailer.

Gladwyne Fire Company

The Gladwyne Fire Company said in all, the fire required eight engines, one tanker, one ladder truck, one air truck, two command vehicles, one medic unit, one rehab bus, multiple Pennsylvania State Police Troopers, local police officers, and fire police units.

The scene was cleared with the help of Janeway Towing, the fire company said.
