Harriton High School Student Showcased in Worldwide Music Livestream

Alyssa Gabrilovich resumed her pandemic-delayed performance schedule for Spring 2022 with a masterful appearance at The Philadelphia International Music Festival’s Winners’ Circle Concert with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra in an event that was livestreamed across the globe from the Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, PA on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

The concert showcased finalists and winners of recent PIMF Concerto Competitions, and was postponed by Covid-19 restrictions. Along with the six featured young musicians, Juliette Kang, First Associate Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra; John Koen, Cello, The Philadelphia Orchestra; Grammy-nominated pianist, Mark Livshits also performed at the concert.

Alyssa, now 16 and a student at Harriton High School, won PIMF’s Piano Competition in 2018. She dazzled the in-person and online audience with her performance of the “Allegro maestoso” movement from Frederic Chopin’s Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11.

“It’s a very powerful piece, it’s very emotional,” Alyssa said, “and I feel like I really connect to it. When you play a piece, especially for an audience, you really want to feel the music and this one, I really feel it in my heart.”

Alyssa is a veteran of the concert stage and accustomed to regular travel to festivals and competitions, so the pandemic restrictions challenged her to muster motivation for a suddenly empty performance calendar. “I certainly got to practice a lot, and that’s really important!” she explained. “But it also made me more grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to travel and perform in front of a live audience. It was kind of lonely without that and easy to lose motivation. So, this concert was a great night for me.”

While attending festivals and music camps such as PIMF in the summer, Alyssa studies year-round with Dr. Igor Resnianski at the Nelly Berman School of Music. Her performance with Dr. Mark Livshits at PIMF’s Winners’ Circle Concert is on PIMF’s YouTube channel.

The Concerto Competition is part of a host of online programs by PIMF, which is currently enrolling dedicated young musicians from around the world as well as the Philadelphia area for its 25th Anniversary Summer Camp and Festival at the Valley Forge Military Academy and College in June and July, 2022. Limited openings are available in most programs.
