LMSD To Buy Villanova Land For Fields, Stoneleigh Off Table Now

With four Spring Mill Road properties in hand, the district will no longer seek to use Stoneleigh as a site for its proposed new school.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – The Lower Merion Board of School Directors Monday night agreed to buy more than 7.5 acres of land to accommodate field space for the proposed middle school site. And in doing the district is ending its pursuit of using Stoneleigh land for the school.

According to the district, the board OKed the purchase of four properties – 912, 916, 920 and 922 Spring Mill Road in Villanova – totaling 7.56 acres.

This acquisition will be used as field space for the proposed school at 1860 Montgomery Ave.

In addition, the district said the Lower Merion Township Board of Commissioners voted Monday to approve changes to the zoning ordinance that will allow construction of a new middle school at 1860 Montgomery Ave.

"Together, the acquisition of the field space property and the BOC vote to approve changes to the zoning ordinance mean that some of the contingencies in the agreement of sale for 1860 Montgomery Avenue have been met and construction of the new middle school has moved closer to reality," the district said in a statement. "The School Board is pleased with the support from the Township and the community for this exciting project."
