Lower Merion Apartment Building Evacuated After Late Night Fire

Firefighters went from floor to floor to find any residents and animals that were still sleeping.

LOWER MERION, PA — An apartment building was evacuated in Lower Merion over the weekend after a significant fire after midnight.

The incident occurred at around 12:29 a.m. at 34 West Montgomery Avenue.

Police began an evacuation of residents when they arrived, and firefighters searched the building to find any people or animals who were still asleep.

Within about 25 minutes, crews placed the fire under control. No residents or animals were injured. One firefighter suffered a "slight injury," officials said.

The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, which caused damage to the first floor of the building.
