Lower Merion Enacting Snow Emergency Tuesday Night

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – Lower Merion Township is enacting a snow emergency status effective at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20 as a fourth nor'easter storm hits the Philadelphia region. Officials did not say when the snow emergency would be lifted.

Trash and recycling collection will go on as usual Wednesday for as long as possible. Any missed collections will be made up Saturday, March 24, the township said.

All township offices, facilities, and libraries will be closed Wednesday.

With a snow emergency in effect, residents should park on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses. This applies only to streets where parking is permitted on both sides of the street.

Residents are also asked to clear snow from around fire hydrants near their property, and residents who live on a corner are asked to clear a path to the street.

Sidewalks must be cleared 36 inches in width within 24 hours of the end of the snowfall and it is illegal to deposit snow into the street.

Parking is not allowed on snow emergency routes, which are identified by red and white signs, or in cul-de-sacs, as well. Cars parked on the emergency routes will be towed.

Vehicles on designated snow emergency routes must be equipped with chains or snow tires, as well.

Residents are not permitted to save parking space with chairs, trash cans, cones, etc. on public streets.

When road plowing and salting is done (see the road priority schedule here), township crews are scheduled to clear municipal lots, typically done between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Township-owned sidewalks will be cleared at the same time.

The township is encouraging the public to call PECO directly at (800) 841-4141 in the event of a power outage.
