Lower Merion Extends Snow Emergency Status

Plummeting temperatures are causing hazardous road conditions.

Lower Merion Township has extended its snow emergency.

The emergency will be in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 15.

"Please stay off roadways if possible – refreezing will occur overnight. And snow crews were still at work Tuesday evening working secondary and tertiary streets," the township said in its announcement.

Trash and recycling scheduled for Tuesday will be picked up on Saturday, according to the township.

All trash and recycling will be limited to street-side only this week, the township said. Alleyway and rear-yard collections have been suspended due to ice conditions, the township said.

With a snow emergency in effect, residents should park on the side of the street with odd addresses. The township said this is only in effect on streets with parking on both sides of the street.

Anyone with driveways on their property is asked to park there. Additionally, residents are asked not to park in cul-de-sacs until the status is lifted.

Residents are also asked to clear snow from around fire hydrants near their property, and resident who live on a corner are asked to clear a path to the street.

Parking is not allowed on snow emergency routes, as well.

The township is encouraging the public to call PECO directly at 1-800-841-4141 in the event of a power outage.

Additionally, residents should call (610) 667-1590, extension 229 to report hazardous conditions or situations in the township.
