Lower Merion Fire Companies Get $765K For New Breathing Gear
The sizable grant will be used to replace the fire department's aging self-contained breathing apparatus with new gear, officials said.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA – The Lower Merion Township fire companies that serve the area in time of crisis just got a sizable grant for new gear that will help them continue offering life-saving services.
According to Merion Fire Company of Ardmore officials, Volunteer fire companies Merion Fire Company of Ardmore, Gladwyne Fire Company, Bryn Mawr Fire Company, Belmont Hills Fire Company, Penn Wynne-Overbrook Hills Fire Company, Union Fire Association of Bala Cynwyd and Narberth Fire Company have received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) from FEMA in the amount of $765,000.
The grant funds will be used to purchase aging self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in the township.

SCBA is used by firefighters to breathe while fighting fires or in other hazardous environments such as natural gas or carbon monoxide leaks, fire officials said. The grant includes the SCBA, face pieces and spare air cylinders, according to officials.
