Lower Merion, Harriton High Schools Going Virtual Monday

The district cited "operational issues" as the impetus for moving the high schools to virtual learning earlier than planned.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Lower Merion School District's two high schools are returning to fully virtual learning next week.

According to the district, Lower Merion and Harriton high schools will move to all virtual learning on Monday.

The district said many high schoolers chose to participate in classes from home between now and winter break.

Additionally, the district said staffing shortages contributed to the decision.

High school students are anticipated to returned to in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 11.

High school special education students who have been identified by their IEP teams as requiring in-person instruction will still have in-person learning.

Lower Merion and Harriton high schools, as well as all other district schools, were slated to move to virtual learning on Dec. 23 ahead of winter break.

The high schools and all other schools will return to in-person learning on Jan. 11.

Moving to fully virtual learning after winter break — which runs from Dec. 24 to Jan. 8 — will allow out-of-state travelers to quarantine for seven days before returning to schools, as currently required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and recommended by the CDC.
