Lower Merion To Hold Virtual Classes Monday, While Most Districts Have Snow Day

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion School District will have virtual instruction on Monday, Jan. 26 after a powerful snowstorm swept through the region on Sunday.

Most of the region took the opposite route, holding a traditional snow day. Lower Merion is among a few notable exceptions, along with Phoenixville and North Penn, choosing to hold virtual classes.

Accumulation estimates ranged from 8 to 12 inches late Sunday afternoon, shutting down roads and impacting other critical infrastructure.

"Monday, January 26, 2026, will be a virtual instruction day for the Lower Merion School District," the district shared. "Students should join their classes online. All school buildings and offices are closed. Right At School, community swim and all extracurricular activities are canceled for Monday."

The district's School Messenger program is down, officials added.

Nearby, local districts like Radnor, Tredyffrin-Easttown, Colonial, Souderton, Hatboro-Horsham, Abington, Wissahickon, Upper Merion, Lower Moreland, Norristown, Perkiomen Valley, Spring-Ford, Pottsgrove, and Upper Moreland will have traditional snow days with no virtual instruction.

No determination has been made yet for Tuesday classes. The district said they will continue to monitor conditions and will share an update when a decision is reached.
