Lower Merion Memorial Day Observance: What to Know

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — On Monday, May 27, Americans across the US will honor Memorial Day. And Lower Merion Township of course will pay tribute to our fallen military members.

The Lower Merion Memorial Day Observance will take place on Monday, May 27th, 2019, with several events planned to honor veterans.

The Merion Concert Band will play US Military service songs and patriotic selections beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Lancaster Avenue and Argyle Road.

Parade participants are to assemble on Greenfield Avenue at 10 a.m.

The parade will step off from Greenfield Avenue at 10:30 a.m., with a parade in review in front of the Lower Merion Township Building at Lancaster and Argyle.

The parade will proceed to St. Paul’s Cemetery for the Memorial Day Service at 11:30 a.m.

Families and children are welcome.

Parade spectators will see first responder units, township veterans and civic groups, drum teams, the Leon Spencer Reid Post veterans with color guard & auxiliary, drill teams, members of the Lower Merion Fire Department and township volunteer fire companies, members of the Lower Merion Police Department and Lower Merion Board of Commissioners, Volunteer Firefighters’ Honor Guard, and more.

In addition to those marchers, the parade will feature re-enactors from the 6th Regimental United States Colored Troops; Eastwick Commandos; Cub Scout dens, Girls Scout and Boy Scout troops; the Southwest Philadelphia Light Bearers; members of the Ardmore Business Association, and more.

Rev. Laura Tancredi of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; Rev. Carol Gilbert, of Bethel AME Church; and Capt. John J. Mulhern, U.S.N.R. (Ret.) will officiate at the Memorial Service and Flag Ceremony, Taps, and Cannon Salute, which is intended to honor all of those who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.
