Lower Merion Police Adds Extra Manpower Amid Area Unrest
Police reassured residents, saying there have been no incidents reported where an individual's personal safety has been endangered.
LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Lower Merion Township are on alert amid looting, vandalism, and unrest more in the Philadelphia area that stemmed from the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin.
According to the township, the police department has been on "yellow alert" since the weekend.
Police have deployed extra manpower and are watching for the looting and public destruction.

"This status will continue as long as necessary," the township said.
Officials are hoping to reassure anxious residents by pointing out much of the crimes are taking place at large businesses, such as on City Avenue, and commercial properties.

"To date, there have been no incidents reported where an individual’s personal safety has been endangered," the township said.
Residents are urged to restrict their travel for the time being, to fully illuminate their properties as best they can, and secure lose items and valuable property in their yards, garages, porches, and other locations.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity, witnesses a crime, or is the victim of a crime is urged to call 911 immediately.
