Lower Merion Police Cracking Down On DUI Through May 20

Police will be out looking for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances as part of a DUI crackdown effort.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Lower Merion Township are planing to crack down on driving under the influence over the weekend.

According to police, from May 16 to May 20 the township will have impaired driving checkpoints and roving patrols to combat driving under the influence.

This initiative is in partnership with a national impaired driving crackdown featuring intensified, highly visible enforcement activities using the tagline “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

A sobriety checkpoint is a highly visible, systematic method for stopping vehicles at a selected location to determine whether motorists are operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

The sobriety checkpoints are being funded by a PennDOT grant and is one of many tools utilized to increase public safety through increased awareness created by high profile enforcement.
