LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lower Merion Township Police Department wants the area's best and brightest to apply for officer positions within the department, and you can do so now through March 20, 2020.

Police opened their applications on Monday, Dec. 16.

Applications will be accepted now through 4 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020.

You can submit your applications for Probationary Police Officer online here. There is a $30 fee for applications. The online application has a separate fee paid to the Township’s third-party processing firm of 2.45 percent of the total transaction with a $2.45 minimum charge. Credit cards accepted include Discover, Visa and MasterCard.

Applications will also be accepted in person and via mail. A check or money order for $30.00, made payable to Lower Merion Township, must be submitted with each application in order for it to be processed. Applications delivered in person will be accepted by the Staff & Inspections Unit between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Lower Merion Police Department, 71 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.

A written test will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at the Lower Merion High School cafeteria, 315 E. Montgomery Ave. in Ardmore.

Requirements

  • All applicants must have reached their 21st birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications.
  • Good moral character (please see disqualifying factors on the application).
  • Must have completed sixty college credits from an accredited institution of higher learning or five years full time experience as a state or municipal police officer at time of application.
  • Applicants must agree in writing to establish permanent residence within the five county metropolitan area, including Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, Philadelphia, and Chester counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six months following regular appointment.
  • Applicants must pass all written, oral, and physical agility examinations (MPOETC Standards).
  • Veterans' preference will be given to those eligible claimants who successfully pass all written, oral, and physical agility examinations.
  • Applicants must be physically and mentally capable of performing the essential duties of a police officer.
  • Must have a valid operator's license.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Tattooing or body art of any kind shall not be visible while in uniform or in other required attire.
