IN THE PARLOR: PORTRAITS BY VINETTA MILLER AND JOHN SERRANO Unique artwork from the artists at the Center for Creative Works

In the Parlor is a collection of portraits on paper by artists John Serrano and Vinetta Miller. Both artists are inspired by representations of the figure throughout history, and work largely from photographic reproductions.

With particular attention to expression and gesture, Serrano’s work engages the drawn line in a unique and often comical narrative in his signature style. Miller approaches her subject largely through color and form, and her spatial sensibility creates a dream-like atmosphere for her expressive figures.

From Seurat to Raphael, the wide range of inspiration for this work gives the exhibition a fluid timeline, and characters from throughout art history appear transformed by these two unique artists. Curated by Megan Snowe, Mark Rice, and Samantha Mitchell.

Opening reception: Friday, September 11th from 4:00 to 6:00pm
First 20 guests receive a complementary exhibition catalogue.
