Premier Concert Organist Alan Morrison performs at Trinity Berwyn
Trinity Presbyterian Church of Berwyn celebrates the 100th anniversary of its pipe organ with a concert by Alan Morrison
ALAN MORRISON is recognized as one of America's premier concert organists, performing in prestigious concert organ venues across the United States and in Canada, as well as in international festivals.
On Sunday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m. Alan Morrison, former organist at First Baptist Church in Philadelphia, will give a 100th Anniversary Concert on the church organ at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn, PA. One hundred years earlier on Thursday, September 14, 1916 Frederick Maxson, also organist at First Baptist Church, gave a dedicatory recital on the newly installed pipe organ.
Alan Morrison is head of the organ department at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and associate professor of music at Westminster Choir College. Mr. Morrison’s program will include works by J. S. Bach, Widor, Mozart and Horatio Parker. In a reference to the organ’s history, he will perform Liberty Fantasia (Souvenir of Valley Forge) by Frederick Maxon who gave the original recital on the organ. Maxson wrote this piece for the dedication of the Haskell organ at Valley Forge Memorial Chapel.
Trinity’s organ, a gift from William H. Fritz in memory of his parents, Henry and Mary (Lobb) Fritz, was built by the Haskell Organ Company of Philadelphia. It originally contained nine ranks and 518 pipes. Today after several expansions and rebuilds, the latest in 2012, the instrument contains 25 ranks and 1463 pipes.
