Tornadoes Possible In Philly Area From Tropical Storm Remnants

The National Weather Service said Tropical Storm Fred's remnants could bring a few isolated brief tornadoes over Southeastern Pennsylvania.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia region could see tornadoes as remnants of Tropical Storm Fred spread throughout the state, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, Fred's remnants will bring heavy rain as it moves across the state and up the Appalachian Mountains.

As for the tornado potential, the National Weather Service said the potential for tornadoes is especially high in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service said most of the storm's impacts will be late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

Chances of showers and thunderstorms begin mostly after 5 p.m.

More showers and thunderstorms will continue until about 2 a.m., then the chance of storms decreases through 5 a.m.

Winds will be around 10 miles per hour, but gusts could reach 20 miles per hour.

Rainfall amounts could reach half an inch.

Last month, an EF3 tornado was confirmed to have hit Bucks County with winds of 140 miles per hour and caused widespread destruction in Bensalem and Trevose.
