West Nile Virus Found In Main Line Mosquito Samples

Pennsylvania officials said mosquito samples collected recently in areas of the Main Line tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Health officials in Pennsylvania said several mosquito samples collected in areas of the Main Line recently have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Pennsylvania officials said the positive sample was collected on Monday, July 16 in Radnor, Tredyffrin, and Easttown townships. Two samples in Tredyffrin tested positive.

Another sample collected Tuesday in Haverford was positive for West Nile, as well.

Eight other areas in Delaware County had positive samples and four others in Chester County had positive samples, as well.

2018 has been a comparatively quiet summer for West Nile Virus in the county thus far.

The risk of being infected with West Nile from a mosquito is very low, officials said, but residents are still urged to take simple precautions, like using repellent and removing standing water from their property.

West Nile Virus typically causes fever but can lead to neurological illness in extremely rare cases.
