Finance Chair Quits Narberth Council; Colleagues Chart Replacement Process

Councilman Surge Ghosh’s council colleagues intend to formally accept his resignation Monday, Jan. 9, and appoint his replacement Feb. 8, they said at Wednesday’s night’s meeting.

Ghosh submitted his written resignation (attached to this article in PDF form) before Monday’s reorgnization meeting. He cited personal, work and family obligations for his decision.

State law allows the council 30 days to fill the vacancy and return it to a full seven members, new Council President Sam Quinn said. Members resolved to advertise for candidates by Monday, when they will formally accept Ghosh’s resignation, and accept submissions through Jan. 27, before conduct interviews Jan. 30 and possibly Jan. 31.

Ghosh, a two-year member, chaired the finance committee. He did not attend Wednesday’s meeting; newly elected Councilman Mike Alexander sat in his former seat.

The council did not take formal action on the interview format, but several members voiced their approval of new Councilman Bob Weisbord‘s idea to interview all candidates in a group, asking the same questions to each in turn.

“I can’t imagine we’re going to get 10 people,” Councilman Bob Wegbreit said.

“Or else, they would have run in the last election, right?” Alexander said. Alexander, Weisbord and the incumbent Quinn were unopposed in the Democratic primary and .
