Alex's Lemonade Stand's Raises More Than $800,000 At 11th Annual Lemon Ball Gala

The event's live auction raised $102,000 alone.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation held it's 11th Annual Lemon Ball Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and raised nearly $850,000 to combat childhood cancer.

The Applebee’s-, Northwestern Mutual- and Volvo-sponsored event featured raffles and auctions to continue to raise funds to fight cancer. Overall, the event generated $840,000, according to the foundation.

Not only did the event raise money, it served as a 21st birthday celebration for Alexandra "Alex" Scott, who died in 2006 and would be 21 on Jan. 18.

To honor Alex’s milestone birthday, guests who donated over $5,000 during the live auction received a plate of Liz Scott’s famous lemon cookies and a bottle of champagne to toast Alex. More than $35,000 was raised through the cookie and champagne toast.

The live auction raised a total of $102,000, with a dinner made by Kevin Sbraga dinner selling twice at $11,000 each. The silent auction brought in over $92,000.

Penn Wynne Elementary School, Alex's school, was honored with the Alex Scott Crystal Cup. The Carpino family of Swedesboro, New Jersey was honored as the Stand Host of the Year. Longtime ALSF supporters, Mary and Molly Hollway of Bloomington, Minnesota were honored as Volunteers of the Year.

The program ended with the Foundation’s Fund-A-Cure, which raised money for ALSF’s Travel For Care program. As Fund-A-Cure began, the stage was filled with childhood cancer heroes and their siblings, known as SuperSibs, to remind donors of who they are helping. Fund-A-Cure raised over $100,000 for Travel For Care, which will help an estimated 200 families travel for childhood cancer treatment.
