Annual Cupcake Challenge Returning To Cynwyd Elementary

BALA CYNWYD, PA – Cynwyd Elementary School will again host the annual cupcake-baking-challenge that will help support a local foundation and the Leukodystrophy Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The 5th Annual Cal's Cupcake Challenge will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cynwyd Elementary School, 101 W Levering Mill Road.

The event will benefit The Calliope Joy Foundation (TCJF) and the Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence at CHOP.

Kids 5 to 15 years old will be putting their baking skills to the test at the event. The young bakers will vie for the "Cupcake Champion" title.

Other features at the event include bounce houses, arts and crafts, food, raffles, face painting, and thousands of cupcakes from the area's best bakeries.

Since the first Cal's Cupcake Challenge, TCJF has raised $350,000 for children with Leukodystrophy and through these efforts, CHOP was able to establish the nation's first Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence, according to the Lower Merion School District.

The clinic has grown dramatically as doctors were only treating four patients a month in 2015, the district said. Now the center sees 44 patients a month with families traveling from all over the nation to see the program's 35 specialists, according to the district.

A $10 donation is required to enter the event.
