Belmont Hills Baseball Field Closes Until Spring for Repairs

Lower Merion's parks department is trying to renovate one township field each year.

Lower Merion Township's Parks and Recreation Department has closed the ball field at in Belmont Hills through the winter for improvements, township spokeswoman Brenda Viola announced this week.

Township workers will install a chain-link fence around the field to keep people off once weeds are killed and the field is aerated, reseeded and fertilized.

"Because the field has good drainage, we plan to temporarily irrigate, which will significantly help turf establishment," said Lindsay Taylor, the parks director. "Our priority is to not only improve the quality of our athletic fields, but also their safety."
