Belmont Hills Civic Association Discusses Library, Burglaries

About a dozen people attended the Belmont Hills Civic Association's monthly meeting Monday night.

Topics of discussion included:

• Richard Welsh reported the 's fundraising is running behind last year's pace and that the library has become more crowded since taking in materials from , which has closed for the year for renovations.
• Paul McElhaney, Belmont Hills' representative on the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners, said residents should be aware of a pattern in some of the township's recent burglaries: someone knocking on the front door, then going around to the back door when no one answers.
• About 150 feet of storm sewer pipe and a pothole in front of the community center on Ashland Avenue are due to be replaced in the spring, McElhaney said.
• The public works department plans to replace the broken "Belmont Hills" sign on Marywatersford Road, McElhaney said. Resident Joy Young said a visitor to the rink struck the sign with a hockey stick.
• The Belmont Hills Easter egg hunt will be March 31, with a rain date of April 1, association president Barb Carlin said. Resident John Mayer has taken over direction of this year's hunt.
• The association has about $2,500 on hand, Carlin said. She asked members for ideas for social activities on which some of that money could be spent.
