Date Rape Survivor Speaking At Main Line College April 24

BRYN MAWR, PA – A date rape survivor and sexual assault prevention advocate whose experience helped focus attention on the issue nationwide will lecture at Rosemont College on Tuesday, April 24 as part of the school's commitment to expanding educational efforts around sexual misconduct and sexual violence.

Katie Koestner, Director of Take Back The Night – an international event and non-profit organization with the mission of ending sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms – will lead her lecture titled "Take Back The Night."

The lecture will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Rotwitt Theater on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

"We are pleased to have this opportunity to bring Ms. Katie Koestner to our campus to discuss this important topic," Dr. Sharon Hirsh, President of Rosemont College said. "Ms. Koestner's story, we hope, will resonate with members of the Rosemont community and help them to make informed choices in their social lives."

Koestner is a national expert on student safety and wellness issues.

At age 18, Koestner appeared on the June 3, 1991 cover of TIME Magazine as the first victim of date rape to speak out nationally and publicly about her experience.

She is the subject the HBO Lifestories Docudrama, "No Visible Bruises: the Katie Koestner Story," and has received national attention on more than a hundred television programs, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC Nightly News, CNBC Talk Live, CNN, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, Later Today, MSNBC, Entertainment Tonight.

She has also given interviews for the Washington Post, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, The Journal of Higher Education, and countless other national and regional publications.

She has lectured at over 4000 schools, universities, corporations, organizations, and military bases on sexual assault, relationships, and technology issues.

Her audiences have included the incoming classes at MIT, Brown University, West Point, the US Naval Academy, Amherst College, Williams College, the top 200 officers of the Department of Defense, and the American Association of School Administrators.
