Over a year and a half ago, the Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail helped coordinate the first tree planting on a warm spring day in early April 2010. The first event, a huge success, featured over 300 volunteers planting 270 trees and even spawned a Board member from the Friends to produce a YouTube video documenting how to properly plant a tree.

The upcoming tree planting follows the Cynwyd Heritage Trail’s recent ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Sunday, October 23, 2011. The trail is now completely paved and officially opened, but there are still more phases of the project that need to be finished. The second tree planting on November 8th represents yet another volunteer effort that will benefit the trail and helps build community in the process.

The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail (FOCHT) was founded in 2008 by a group of dedicated volunteers committed to supporting the construction of the Trail. Currently, the Friends focus on supporting the volunteer efforts in beautifying the park. In the future, the group hopes to support the recreational and educational resources of the park and provide for trail amenities.
