Drummer Elaine and her trumpeter daughter Susan, descendants of Philadelphia’s prominent Hoffman family klezmorim musical dynasty, are internationally celebrated for their musical skill, ingenuity and cultural knowledge. Their exceptional repertoire of new and ancient sounds includes special and distinct songs written by and for each child, grandchild, and for special occasions. A documentary film, Eatala: A Life in Klezmer, shows how Elaine (her Yiddish name is “Eatala”) has broken barriers in her persistent devotion to her family’s Klezmer music.
