IRS Scammers Clone Main Line Police Number So Cops Show On Caller ID
IRS scammers are "stooping to a new low," according to local police.

Lower Merion, PA -- Local police are warning the public about a continuing phone scam in the area in which callers are pretending to be with the Lower Merion Police.
The scammers have somehow managed to clone the police department's phone number, according to authorities, so that when they call, the caller ID says "Lower Merion Police."
Scammers are "stooping to a new low" with their latest trick, the department said, warning the public not to fall for the scam.

Typically they will impersonate law enforcement or IRS officials and demand personal information or money.
The IRS does not ever call taxpayers, police insist.
