Lower Merion Football Snaps Several Streaks In Opener
The Aces won their first opener since 2008.
It’s been a long while since has scored 34 points or more in a game. But the Aces snapped more than a few streaks in its season-opening victory over Mastbaum, 34-6, Friday night.
, and won its season opener for the first time since 2008. The win also marked the first time since August 29, 2008, that the Aces scored 34 or more points in a game, when they smoked Prep Charter, 56-6.
Most importantly, Friday’s was the Aces’ first win since November 14, 2009, a 20-7 victory over Radnor. Lower Merion went winless last year.

But Aces’ coach John Rothberg promised a more potent offensive team and that’s what it looks like the Aces could be. Ernest Pendleton, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound junior tailback, rushed for a career-best 125 yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory over Mastbaum.
“We’ve been working really hard in the off-season and it’s been good so far,” Pendleton said. “There was some frustration building up. We were aware of the losing streak. Now we can move forward, hopefully for the better.”

“This would be really big for us if we win,” Pendleton said. “We’re starting to feel good about ourselves. I remember what last year felt like.”
