Library Top Pick of the Day: Now or Never! 54th Massachusetts Infantry's War to End Slavery by author Ray Shepard is the Library's Top Pick of the Day. Presents the dual biographies of black Civil War soldiers in the Union's Massachusetts 54th Infantry, George E. Stephens and James Henry Gooding, whose eyewitness reports of the battlefields and of life inside their camps became the catalyst for black soldiers to fight not only against the Confederacy and its slavery, but against the injustice in their own Union Army, ultimately leading to a civil rights victory in their day--winning equal pay for African American soldiers. Check it out on MackinVIA!
