Montco Elks Lodge Stripped Of Liquor License: Report

"There was just problem after problem."

The Montgomery Elks Lodge in Pottstown has been stripped of its liquor license, according to a Pottstown Mercury report.

The lodge at 609 Walnut Street has had several run-ins with the law in recent years, and has required an increased police presence, the report states.

“This isn’t a mom-and-pop bar that sold to an underager and was chastised,” Pottstown Police Chief Richard Drumheller told the Mercury. “That’s not what happened here. What’s happened here is we had a lot of complaints about the neighborhood. We were there frequently, they were using more than their share of police services and there was just problem after problem.”

The lodge defended itself by saying the incidents were the fault of previous management, and that new security measures had been put in place, the report states. But a judge upheld the ruling that the lodge be forbidden from serving alcohol for the period of May 1 2014 through April 30, 2016.

Exalted Ruler Pressly Day said there hasn’t been any citations against the lodge since he took charge, the report states.

The lodge will be eligible to apply for a renewal of their license in 2016.
