About half an hour before Le's death, Rollins attempted to kill two men in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia, firing his weapon at them 17 times.
Rollins fled the area sometime after the killing and was later taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in DeKalb County Georgia on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
He was later extradited to Philadelphia, then Delaware County to answer to his charges.
“We are extremely pleased to announce a guilty verdict in this case, which is the result of many hours of hard work by Haverford Township Police Department Detective Thomas Long, CID Detective Mike Jay, the Philadelphia Police Department, U.S. Marshals, Samantha Bass counselor advocate of Crime Victim Services of Delaware County Women Against Rape, and Assistant District Attorney Michael Hill whose excellent prosecutorial skills resulted in a first-degree murder conviction in this case,” said District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland. “Mr. Rollins now faces life in prison for ruthlessly gunning down the victim outside, leaving him for dead in the street,” said District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland. “While we are satisfied with this conviction, we know that this guilty verdict will not bring back the victim, John Le, or undo the emotional trauma this act of violence has caused to his family and the surrounding community. As a result of excellent teamwork the defendant will finally face the consequences of his actions.”
