On Tuesday, Oct. 21, Walmart Human Resources Manager Rick Phillips presented a $50,000 Walmart Foundation check to board members and staff of the Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) in Bala Cynwyd.
The JRA is one of the largest hunger relief agencies in the Philadelphia region. One Sunday each month, around 1,000 volunteers meet at the organization’s warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia to sort, box and deliver food to 3,200 low-income families, many of whom are home-bound.

“For many of our recipients, our deliveries mean the difference between eating regularly and going without,” said JRA Executive Director Amy Krulik. “This donation from Walmart will make a great impact on the communities we serve, and we are deeply appreciative.”
The donation is part of Walmart’s “Fighting Hunger Together” – a five-year, $2 billion cash and in-kind commitment leveraging Walmart’s size and resources to provide nutritious food to those in need. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $26.6 million in cash and in-kind contributions to charitable organizations throughout Pennsylvania in 2013.
“Walmart is proud to support the JRA’s commitment to the Philadelphia community, and also the energized community of volunteers on which they rely,” Phillips said. “They are truly fighting hunger together.”
