A Petition calling for resignation of Mr. Schmotzer and Mr. Dice

A petition calling for resignations of Mr. Schmotzer and Mr. Dice, solicitor, appears on Mr. Rainaldi”s blog, titled, “Resign - To Give up in a Formal or Official Way.”  In the petition, Mr. Rainaldi give us a brief synopsis of the events leading up to his call for resignations.  I have given the entire matter considerable thought over the past month.  Patiently, I have waited for an answer to the many questions posed by me and other citizens at past three board meetings.  The only response to date, offered publicly by Mr. Schmotzer, is that several other school employees have been “appointed” to positions in a similar fashion.

As a former school teacher and administrator, I find the explanation offered reminiscent of the many excuses I heard on the school playground or in my office by students accused of a transgression.  The gist of such excuses went something like, “Why are you picking on me, Billy did it too” as though implicating others in similar misconduct excuses their own bad behavior.  The fact that the board members did not follow standard hiring procedures and practices in three or four other instances makes the matter worse not better.  In a word, it does not inspire my confidence in the School Board, past or present.

Adherence to standard policies, procedures and practices when hiring employees, whether in the public or private sectors, is elementary, personnel management 101, and the least we should expect from people entrusted with that responsibility.  When these shenanigans transpired, Mr. Schmotzer was Board President and Mr. Dice the board solicitor, hence Mr. Rainaldi is singling them out as the primarily culprits in his call for resignations.  If you agree with Mr. Rainaldi’s visit his blog as referenced above. This public uproar should be a lesson learned by current and future School Directors.
