6 Volunteer Fire Departments Consolidated In Bensalem
Bensalem Township approved a resolution at its recent meeting to create the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —After two and a half years of planning and collaboration, the Bensalem Township Department of Public Safety and Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo's administration have announced the formation of a new public safety organization.
Bensalem Township Council unanimously approved a resolution at its meeting last month to consolidate six volunteer fire departments into one unified organization known as the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department.
The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Company was formed from the six legacy volunteer fire companies: Cornwells, Eddington, Newport, Nottingham, Trevose, and Union.

The fire department consolidation was necessary to ensure adequate fire/emergency response within the township to better serve the needs of the Bensalem community and was the only way to sustain a volunteer company, due to the reduced number of volunteers, Public Safety Director William McVey said in a press release.
This has been a long and arduous process that spanned more than two years.

The six legacy volunteer fire companies formed a consolidation committee that worked in partnership with Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey and Deputy Director Robert Race.
Their efforts were endorsed by Mayor DiGirolamo, as well as the members of the Bensalem Council. The working relationship with township officials and political support were key factors in the success of this process.
The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department would like to acknowledge Rob Brady, President of
ROBB Consulting, LLC, for his role in assisting the Steering Committee in developing the new
organization.
The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department is proud to be a part of this historical event and looks forward to serving Bensalem Township as one volunteer fire department.
A resolution was signed into effect at the Bensalem Council's June 18 meeting.
