7 PA Hospitals Among Nation's Greatest, New Analysis Says

A new analysis says seven Pennsylvania hospitals are among the 100 greatest in the nation. Becker’s Healthcare, which publishes business and legal information for the healthcare industry, released its annual “100 great hospitals in America” list last week, and seven in Pennsylvania were included.

Here are the Pennsylvania hospitals that made the list, in alphabetical order:

• Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
• Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC
• Geisinger Medical Center (Danville, Pa.)
• Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest (Allentown, Pa.)
• Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian (Philadelphia)
• UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside (Pittsburgh)
• Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals (Philadelphia)

The group says the hospitals that made the list have received national recognition for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes and staff and doctor satisfaction.

The hospital list is based on the group’s analysis of ranking and awards agencies, including the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, letter grades from The Leapfrog Group and Truven Health Analytics.

In fact, Becker's latest list comes just days after Leapfrog released its bi-annual safety ratings. In that, five Pennsylvania hospitals received a D grade, but 37 got an A. You can review the latest safety grades here.

Becker’s Healthcare has a portfolio that includes trade publications, such as the magazine Becker's Hospital Review.

“These institutions are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties,” the group said on its website. “The list also includes industry innovators that have sparked trends in healthcare technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction.”
