9-Year-Old High School Graduate Honored By Bucks Community College

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Bucks County's 9-year-old high school graduate will be recognized at a Black History Month program Thursday.

Bucks County Community College President Felicia Ganther will recognize David Balogun of Bensalem Township, who graduated from a state charter high school at age 9 and plans to attend the college for online classes next month.

Balogun celebrated his high school graduation from the Reach Cyber Charter, a statewide, tuition-free online school based in Harrisburg, earlier this month.

"We are very excited about it," his mother Ronya told Patch Wednesday.

Balogun's recognition comes during a BCCC ceremony to cap off the college’s celebration of Black History Month.

Ganther and the Board of Trustees present awards to leaders of community, corporate, humanitarian, and student organizations who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to non-discrimination.

The 2nd-annual BCCC Martin Luther King, Jr., Dream Builder Awards will go to:

  • Community Dream Builder – Adrienne King, Founder and President, The PairUP Society.
  • Corporate Dream Builder – Dr. Vail Garvin, President & CEO Emerita, Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce.
  • Humanitarian Dream Builder – Karen Downer, President, Bucks County NAACP.
  • Student Dream Builder – Lateefat Adewale, President, Bucks County Community College Student Government Association.

The ceremony features live music from the college’s Jazz Faculty Combo and Madrigal Singers, including “MLK” by U-2 and the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
