BCCC Hosting Arts At Bucks Celebration

Through May 10, there will be numerous concerts, exhibitions, films and a variety of other activities. Many of the events are free.

- April 25, 27, 28, May 4, 5: Student musicians and vocalists perform free concerts. The student concerts take place at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. For a complete list, visit www.bucks.edu/news/culture/music.
- April 20: The Tom Lawton Sextet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Zlock Performing ArtsCenter. Tickets are $10, and $5 for seniors, students, and alumni. For more information, call 215-968-8087 or visit www.bucks.edu/tickets.
- April 21: David Brahinsky and Friends present a lunchtime blues concert from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Presser Music Room. Admission is free.
- April 28: The 51st Annual Student Exhibition opens in the Hicks Art Center Gallery, running through May 10. An awards ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1 during the department’s open house. Admission is free. For gallery hours, visit www.bucks.edu/gallery.
- April 27, 28, 29 and May 1: From 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors can take in the interactive exhibition “Structures & Stories: Contemporary Book Arts” in Artmobile, the college’s traveling outreach museum, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. To learn more, visit www.bucks.edu/artmobile.
- April 30: The ninth annual Tyler Gardens & Landscaping Lecture takes place at 9 a.m. in the Zlock Performing ArtsCenter. Bill Thomas, author and executive director of Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, Pa., will speak about “The Art of Gardening at Chanticleer.” A tour of the formal gardens behind Tyler Hall follows. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students with current ID. Tickets are available at www.bucks.edu/foundation/events and at the door.
- May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.: The Department of the Arts opens its doors for free demonstrations, gallery receptions, open studios, and more. Demonstrations include woodturning, glassblowing, printmaking, and a bronze foundry pour. In addition, students will be selling their arts and crafts in the Hicks Art Center courtyard. - May 4: Students studying film and video production get their chance to shine at from 5:30 to 7 p.m., when the juried annual Bucks Film Festival takes place in the Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., with screening starting at 6 p.m. The film festival is free and open to the public.
- May 6: The college’s Wordsmiths Reading Series presents a poetry reading with George Drew at 7:30 p.m. in the Orangery building. He’ll be joined by the 2016 Muse Award winners Marylou Kelly Streznewski, David Kline, Jim Freeman, and Kathleen Mulholland. Admission is free.
