Bensalem Adds 2 Police Officers, Plans On Hiring More

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The Bensalem Township Police Department has added two more police officers to its ranks with the intention of hiring more.

On Friday night, police officers Sean Heefner and Kyle Tuthill were sworn in, Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and Police Director William McVey announced.

Both officers attended the Temple University Police Academy for the past six months. They graduated from the academy Friday night and received their Act 120 Municipal Police Officer Training Certification.

Heefner was previously employed by the Wildwood Crest Police Department.

He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Hammonton, N.J., in 2018. He then attended the Camden County Community College and received his associate's degree in criminal justice.

Tuthill served in the private sector as a helicopter mechanic for Leonardo Helicopters in Northeast Philadelphia.

He graduated from the Bucks County Technical High School in 2015 and received his associate's degree in criminal justice from the Bucks County Community College.

"Please help us congratulate Officer Heefner and Officer Tuthill and welcome them to the Bensalem Community that they will serve for many years to come," the mayor and McVey said.

After adding the two officers, the police department is accepting applications for police officer positions with a deadline set for April 5.

Township officials promote the police department as the "best in the tri-state area."

The starting salary for a Bensalem police officer is $70,082.

Early last month, the police department swore in two officers from Philadelphia: William Beck and Christian Martinka.

Beck spent nearly nine years in the Philadelphia Police Department with his most recent assignment in the 15th District. He was also a member of the tactical unit.

Martinka spent nearly four years with the Philadelphia Police Department and was also assigned to the 15th District.
