Bensalem Starts School Monday: What You Need To Know

Some Bensalem students begin classes Monday with the rest returning Tuesday. Two schools are celebrating milestones this year.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —It's back to school Monday for most students in the Bensalem Township School District.

Two schools are also celebrating major anniversaries this year: Bensalem High School hits the century mark of its first graduating class while Benjamin Rush Elementary School is celebrating 60 years.

With Bensalem High School reaching its 100-year anniversary, the district will be planning special events throughout the year, school officials said.

But one thing students will notice when they arrive is the new sign at the high school.

The district is starting school this year on a staggered schedule.

On Monday, the first day of school is for Grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12.

On Tuesday, kindergarteners and Grades 1, 7, and 9 will report for classes.

All K-12 report to school On Wednesday.

School hours are 7:21 a.m. to 2:11 p.m. at Bensalem High School, 8:10 a.m. to 2:56 p.m. at the middle schools, and 8:55 a.m. to 3:41 p.m. at the elementary schools.

The school district will also be providing free breakfast and lunch for the school year. The program is available to schools and districts that participate in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program.

All BTSD enrolled students are eligible to receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch each school day at no charge. (There is a charge for any snack or a la carte item.)

"We're excited. We're all ready and are going to have a great year," School Board Member Marc Cohen said.

In his role as treasurer, the Bensalem Education Foundation presented a $10,000 check at Tuesday's school board meeting.

The funds were distributed with $8,243.10 used to purchase 18 iPads for the after-school Robotics Clubs at the district's six elementary schools. The remaining $1,756.90 was used to purchase robotics kits for the summer robotics program.
