New Haven, Conn. - Holy Family University women's soccer freshman forward Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 14 as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. This marks the first time this season that Richards received the conference's weekly honor.
In addition, senior forward Megan Tole (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) was named to the CACC Weekly Honorable Mention.
In a week that saw the Tigers go 2-0-0, Richards recorded a goal in each victory, including the game-winner at Concordia College. Holy Family began the week with a 3-0-shutout win at Goldey-Beacom College. Richards capped the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute after knocking in a rebound shot by Tole.
Richards highlighted the week scoring the game-winner on Saturday. With the score tied 1-1 entering the first overtime period, Richards scored an unassisted goal after breaking away from the defense down the right side of the field. She then chipped the ball over the Concordia goalkeeper into the back of net giving the Tigers the 2-1 victory :39 seconds into overtime.
The overtime score marked her fourth of the season as Richards currently has nine points (4G/1A) this year.
Tole finished the week with a pair of goals as well as she tallied five total points. Against Goldey-Beacom, Tole scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute. She later assisted Richards on the team's third score of the game.
Tole capped the week with her seventh goal of the season as she scored the game's first goal at Concordia. In the eighth minute, Tole received a cross pass inside the box to connect on a shot to the right side of the net. She currently leads the team in scoring this season with seven goals, four assists and 18 points.
Holy Family (5-9-0, 5-5-0 CACC) is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 18 as the Tigers travel to face Millersville University in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
