New Haven, Conn. - Holy Family University women's tennis player senior Juliana Victoria (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) was tabbed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 9. The conference office announced the weekly award Wednesday morning.
Victoria went undefeated at the number one singles position last week picking up victories against the University of the Sciences and Concordia College. Against USciences, Victoria came-from-behind to defeat Victoria Quang after dropping the first set, 5-7. She came through with a 6-1 victory in set two and then won the tie-break by the score of 10-3.
This past Saturday versus Concordia, the three-time All-CACC selection picked up the win again in come-from-behind fashion. Victoria battled back after dropping the first set to the Clippers' top-flight player Luisa Candido, 5-7. She took set two by the score of 7-6 and then won the tie-break, 10-3, to clinch the victory.
Holy Family (3-2, 2-1 CACC) recently defeated cross-town rival Philadelphia University, 6-3, Tuesday as Victoria picked up victories at 1st singles and doubles. She won her singles match in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to record her fourth straight match in the number one slot. Victoria picked up the win at 1st doubles with partner freshman Alina Nersesyan (Yaroslavi, Russia) by the score of 8-2.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 as the Tigers host Adelphi University in a non-conference contest. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
