Three Earn Men's Basketball All-CACC Honors

Three Holy Family University men's basketball players earn All-CACC honors, including juniors Ervin Ezell (1st team) and Alberto Munoz (2nd Team) and senior Angel Ayala (Honorable Mention).

New Haven, Conn. - Junior Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) highlighted this year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference teams as three Holy Family University men's basketball players were recognized as voted by the conference's head coaches and announced by the conference office.

Ezell was named to the All-CACC first team, while fellow classmate Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) was selected to the All-CACC second team.  Senior Angel Ayala (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) earned All-CACC Honorable Mention accolades.

“I am happy for the recognition that Ervin and Alberto received,” said head coach R.C. Kehoe. “I am a little disappointed that Angel didn't garner more respect, but happy he received some type of accolade.  I believe when your team loses their leading returning scorer before the regular season starts and then finishes in first place, the players that made up for that loss should be recognized accordingly.   With that being said, I couldn't be prouder of the way these three have led our team both on and off the court.  I hope that we can ride them to a CACC Title which has been everyone's goal from the beginning.”

In his first season with Holy Family, Ezell has compiled an impressive year thus far, leading the Tigers to their first-ever CACC South Division Regular Season Title.  He leads the Tigers in scoring with 16.5 points per game to go along with 119 assists, 43 blocks, 78 steals and 118 free throws made.

Ezell is also ranked among the conference leaders in those categories, including first in steals, second in assists, fifth in blocks and free throws made and seventh in scoring.  Furthermore, Ezell is one of the nation's top defensive players as he ranks seventh among the Division II leaders in steals per game (3.00).  His 78 steals this season is the sixth most this year in Division II.

Munoz is earning All-CACC honors for the second straight season after being named to the second team for the first time in his career.  Last year, Munoz earned All-CACC Honorable Mention honors.

Munoz has compiled a career year this season as he is averaging a career-high 15.7 points per game.  He has also recorded career-bests in steals (41), three-pointers made (83), total field goals (139) and total points (408).  Munoz is second in the conference in three-pointers and is eighth among the conference leaders in steals, blocks (30) and points.

A threat from beyond the arc, Munoz has drained at least one three-pointer in 25-of-26 games this season.  He recorded at least five three-pointers in a game eight times, including a career-high seven threes twice.  Earlier this season, Munoz became the 22nd player in program history to reach the 1,000 career points milestone.

Ayala is earning All-CACC honors for the first time in his career as he is compiling his best season at Holy Family.  Ayala has been a huge spark for the Tigers off the bench this season as he is averaging a career-high 10.2 points per game.  He is also averaging a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with 84 assists and 42 steals.  Ayala is shooting an impressive .487 percent from the field and leads the team in shooting with those with 100 or more shot attempts.

Ayala ranks eighth in the conference in total rebounds (195) and is 13th in shooting.  He is also ranked among the conference leaders in assists (9th) and offensive rebounds (66-8th).

During the team's current five game winning streak, Ayala has scored in double-figures all five games, including a career-high 20 points in three straight games.

Holy Family (17-9, 13-4 CACC) will host Felician College on Saturday, March 2 in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament.  Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.  The Golden Falcons earned the No. 4 seed from the North Division after finishing conference play with a 9-9 mark.
