Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with the University of the Sciences Thursday afternoon at McNeil Field.  Holy Family took game one by the score of 4-3, while USciences picked up a 3-1 victory on the backend of the doubleheader.

Holy Family is now 4-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while USciences is now 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the CACC.

Holy Family had three players record multiple hits on the afternoon, including senior Lindsey Iden (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock North) who went 2-for-6 at the plate to go along with a double and one RBI.  Freshmen Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete) and Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) each went 2-for-5.  Junior Samantha Borrelli (West Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) drove in a pair of runs, including a run scoring double in game one.

Game One: Holy Family 4, USciences 3

In game one, Holy Family jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.  With two outs, Iden reached on an infield single and would score after Borrelli followed with a double to left center field.  Borrelli advanced to third on the play, which turned out to work in the Tigers' favor.  Sophomore Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) followed with an infield hit to shortstop, which was good enough to score Borrelli to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The following inning the Tigers doubled their lead with two more runs.  Senior Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) tripled in sophomore Kristy Tomlinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) after being hit with a pitch to reach base.  Two batters later, Iden came through with a double down the left field line as Myers scored on the play to make the score 4-0. Iden finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Devils finally broke through with a run in the bottom half of the fourth as freshman Nicole Rivera recorded a run scoring single to make the score 4-1.  USciences came through with another run in the fifth after freshman Jackie Keifer recorded an RBI single of her own to cut the Tigers lead in half, 4-2.  Kiefer went 2-for-3 at the plate to go along with a walk.

In the Devils' last at-bat, the home team came within one run of the Tigers' lead after senior Erin Summers scored a run with two outs in the inning.  Despite the rally, the Tigers were able to close out the Devils as junior Victoria Reuscher (Cheltenham, Pa./Little Flower HS for Girls) had the final batter ground out to end the game.

Reuscher (3-2) earned the win after pitching 3.2 innings of relief.  She allowed two runs off four hits, while striking out one batter.  Junior Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) started the game as she allowed five hits in 3.1 innings of work.  Alligood surrendered just one run and struck out two batters.

Game Two: USciences 3, Holy Family 1

In game two, freshman Cassie Lapotsky (4-1) pitched a complete game for the Devils as she allowed only one run off four hits.  She struck out three batters on her way to her fourth win of the season.

The Devils broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning with a pair of runs.  Junior Courtney Corcoran highlighted the inning with a two-run double with two outs.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Holy Family jumped on the scoreboard after Borrelli hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring freshman Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel).   Casey led the inning off with a double to left field and advanced to third after a sac bunt by junior AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).

The Devils would answer back in their half of the sixth as Corcoran came through with her third RBI of the game after a base hit to center field scoring junior Samantha Shaver.  Corcoran's hit gave the Devils a 3-1 lead.  She finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Lapotsky would go on to retire the Holy Family offense in order in the seventh inning to close out the game.

Borrelli (0-3) went the distance for the Tigers as she allowed three runs off five hits in six innings of work.  She also struck out five batters.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, March 23 as the Tigers travel to face Caldwell College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 12 p.m.
