  • New entrance on building’s north side
  • New riverside lobby and exhibit gallery
  • Expanded museum space
  • Improved parking

A new exhibit exploring the “10 crucial days” of the American Revolution is being planned. The exhibit will tell the story of the days immediately following Washington’s midnight crossing of the Delaware River, widely considered the turning point in the war.

Currently the Visitor Center has a small display of artifacts on loan from the Mercer Museum, the Museum of the American Revolution and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Highlights of the display include a Revolutionary War musket collection and an original letter written by George Washington just hours before the crossing.

Visitors can also watch a 12-minute movie about Washington’s late-night crossing in the new state-of-the-art auditorium. A digital replica of Emanuel Leutze’s famous painting Washington Crossing the Delaware is also on display in the auditorium.

With the installation of geothermal heating and air conditioning, the building is now more energy efficient. The building also has expanded storage space, a new sprinkler system and a repaired roof. The parking lot has also been improved.

The new Visitor Center is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Friends of Washington Crossing Historic Park will continue to put on special events for the community, including the annual Christmas Day re-enactment. For a list of upcoming events at Washington Crossing Historic Park, check out www.VisitBucksCounty.com/events
