Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Bensalem

Why is drinking green beer more often associated with St. Patrick's Day then going to church even though it is a religious feast day?

St. Patrick's Day falls on March 17, which takes place during the Christian season of Lent, according to History.com. Traditionally, Irish families would attend church in the morning and celebrate the saint's feast day and the anniversary of his death in the afternoon. During Lent families were to abstain from eating meant, but those prohibitions were waived and people would dance, drink and feast.

Luckily, you don't have to be Irish to drink green beer or eat bangers and mash. So if you'd like to enjoy a Guinness or a shot of Jameson, check out some of these Bensalem bars that are having celebrations.

Curran's Irish Inn is celebrating St. Patrick's Day all day on Sunday, March 17 with $6 ham and cabbage and a pint of Guinness. Then at 6 p.m., Sindi Raymong Band will perform. 

Brady's Irish Pub will throw it's annual "St. Paddy's Party" with Guinness, Harp and half and half for $3.50, $1 jello shots and $2 Rolling Rock pints. Additionally, there will be a traditional Irish buffet and DJ Pete will spin some tunes. 

Eddington House will have a DJ, band and a buffet on Sunday.

If you'd rather celebrate on Saturday so you have Sunday to recover, check out Paddy Whack's Irish Sports Pub just outside of Bensalem in NE Philadelphia. The Jamison Paddy Bash will start at 6 p.m. Jamison will perform an outdoor concert (under a tent). Admission is $10 and Miller Lite Aluminums will be $4 and Miller Lite Drafts will be $3.
