February Happenings in Bucks County

Check out the list below for great activities to beat the cold this month!

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it is filled with exciting events and activities to help you escape the bitter cold of winter. From hilarious musicals to everything you need for a Valentine’s Day to remember, Bucks County has got you covered.

· February 1 – If your New Year’s Resolution is to become a wine connoisseur, then don’t miss the Pairing Wine & Cheese workshop at Crossing Vineyards and Winery. Learn how to pair select cheeses with your favorite bottles of wine through a mix of sampling and instruction. Education never tasted so good!

· February 3 – Join the knowledgeable staff and volunteers at Peace Valley Nature Center for a special nighttime adventure during their Snow Moon Campfire and Walk event. Travel through the wooded area around the nature center by moonlight and learn about the moon’s importance to the native people who used to call this land home. After the educational walk, return to the warmth of the campfire.

· February 3 – Bring the kids along to a special Bundle Up! Tour of Grounds for Sculpture designed for families. The tour, following the Storytime in the Galleries program, features outdoor sculptures loved by children and adults alike. During the walk, be on the lookout for Art, the Grounds for Sculpture Groundhog, to find out if he saw his shadow! Warm up with complimentary hot chocolate at the end of the tour.

· February 4-February 15 – Sister is back at the Bucks County Playhouse again this year teaching her Late Night Catechism class. “Students” just may end up on stage for misbehaving during this sinfully funny interactive play. This is definitely one “class” you don’t want to skip!

· February 5 – Sci-Fi fans won’t want to miss this! Head to the Doylestown Book Shop for a Book Reading with James Morrow this month! The acclaimed author will be reading from his brand-new book, Galapagos Regained, alongside the Bookshop’s own Sci-Fi Book Club.

· February 6 – Attention beer connoisseurs! The Washington House is hosting a very special Beer Tasting with Duck Rabbit Brewery this month. Duck Rabbit offers an enormous range of flavorful dark beers. Treat your palette to something new and find your next favorite brew.

· February 7 – It’s all but business-as-usual for Charlie’s Angels when they begin a case for a prominent business man in this new Murder Mystery Dinner: Charlie’s Angels of Death. One, or all, of the Angels just may be the target of a hit man and it’s up to you to help them solve the case before it’s too late! Enjoy a delicious dinner at Fisher’s Tudor House along with a thrilling show from the talented actors at Without a Cue.

· February 15 – Put on your dancing shoes and head to Sellersville Theater for a show unlike any other. Spyro Gyra, who hit pop charts with their number one single “Morning Dance,” blends soul, Latin, pop and world beat influences to create a unique sound. Between their innovative music style and dynamic presence, you’ll be dancing along in no time.

· February 17 – Put on your heels and head to the Bucks County Playhouse to help Miss Pumpkin celebrate her 25th year in drag, Mardi Gras-style! Don’t miss a night of fabulous and funny routines from Miss Pumpkin and all her friends. All proceeds benefit New Hope Celebrates.

· February 22 – Head to Central Bucks East High School for a special performance by the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra during their Winter Concert. Recognized for its distinguished performances throughout the East Coast, the Central Bucks High East Concert Choir is joining up with the talented musicians of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra to put on a spectacular concert.

· Through February 22 – Celebrate the life of a talented musician who was taken far too young during the new show Always…Patsy Cline, produced and performed at Bristol Riverside Theatre. Based on a true story, this two-character musical recounts the unlikely friendship between country music legend Patsy Cline and her most devoted fan, Louise Seger. This humorous show features 27 of Cline’s unforgettable hits.

· Through February 22 – Join regionally renowned experts as they present on a variety of topics during the popular Winter Lecture Series happening at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve. Lectures will cover a variety of nature-related topics, ranging from gardening techniques to conservation and more.

· February 28-June 4 - The James A. Michener Art Museum is unveiling a brand-new exhibit titled Rodin- The Human Experience, Selections from the Iris & B. Gerald Center Collections.” The selected bronzes in the show represent the major achievements of Rodin’s career, including the powerful Burghers of Calais, as well as works derived from his masterpiece, The Gates of Hell. Also featured are sculptures, such as Monumental Torso of the Walking Man, which demonstrates his admiration for Michelangelo, and Dance Movement D, which speaks to his interest in creating an illusion of movement.

· Through February 28 – Browse the work of local contemporary artist Rosalie Gallo, on display now at the Bucks County Visitor Center. A former student of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Tyler School of Art and Woodmere Art Museum, Gallo’s work features a wide variety of oil, watercolor, pastel and pencil pieces.

· Through March 15 – What makes a house a home? The new House and Home exhibit on display at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown seeks to find out. Explore past and present architectural styles and learn about the many cultural and historical meanings of the American home through film clips, construction materials, domestic artifacts and photographs.

· Through March 29 – Browse beautiful handmade quilts set up in the Village Gazebo at Peddler’s Village during their Annual Quilt Competition & Display. Five categories compete for more than $1,000 in prizes including Traditional, Applique, Creative, Student and Potluck.
